Package inspection and conversion run locally. Supported file contents are not uploaded for conversion, and capability depends on what the original .key package includes.
How to Convert a .key File Without Hiding Quality Limits
Drop a single-file Keynote package into the tool. Pixlane checks for a safe embedded PDF, a sequence of packaged page previews, or a cover-only image before enabling conversion. This route-aware check prevents a one-page cover image from being presented as a complete deck.

The output mirrors content already exposed by the package: animations and video become static, while notes, comments, skipped slides, and build stages appear only when they were included in the packaged PDF. How does Pixlane choose the conversion route?
Pixlane inspects the .key package first. If it contains a safe embedded PDF, that PDF is preserved without intentional rasterization. If it contains per-page preview images, Pixlane builds an image-based PDF. A package with only one cover image can produce only a one-page preview.
Will the PDF match the Keynote presentation exactly?
The packaged PDF route keeps the PDF bytes exactly when no page, handout, or metadata changes are requested. That is not the same as re-rendering the current Keynote document, and an embedded preview may be older or omit Keynote-only features. For a fresh full-fidelity export, use the current Keynote app or Keynote for iCloud.
Can I select PDF pages or make a handout?
Yes. Choose all packaged PDF pages or enter a range such as 1-3, 5, then keep one page per output page or place 2, 4, or 6 pages on A4 or US Letter sheets. Pixlane does not intentionally rasterize an embedded PDF, but links, accessibility structure, bookmarks, annotations, and signatures may change.
Are speaker notes, comments, skipped slides, and build stages included?
Only when they are already present in the PDF packaged inside the .key file. Pixlane does not invent or regenerate Keynote-only content from the internal IWA data. Animations and video become static in PDF.
What if Pixlane finds only a cover preview or no preview?
Pixlane labels that limitation before processing. A cover-only package can create a one-page preview; a package with no usable preview is stopped. Use Keynote or Keynote for iCloud and choose Download a Copy > PDF for the complete deck.
Is my presentation uploaded?
No. Package inspection, PDF extraction, PDF page selection, handout layout, and image fallback run on this device. The current local mode does not upload supported file contents for conversion.
Which Keynote files work?
Use a single-file .key package. If macOS treats the presentation as a package directory, open it in Keynote and choose File > Advanced > Change File Type > Single File. Password-protected and ZIP64 packages are not supported by this local converter.
