How does the repair work?
In stages. The tool first re-parses the file leniently, reconstructs missing trailer and cross-reference data, and copies every recoverable page into a brand-new PDF. Text, fonts, and vector graphics are preserved. Only if that fails does it fall back to rendering pages as images with a second, more tolerant PDF engine.
Will my text stay selectable?
If the structural rebuild succeeds, the filename ends in -repaired.pdf, or -repaired-partial.pdf when some pages had to be skipped, yes. If the file needed image-based salvage (-repaired-raster.pdf), pages become 144 dpi images: the document opens everywhere, but text is no longer selectable.
Can every damaged PDF be repaired?
No. Pages whose data was overwritten or is missing entirely cannot be reconstructed. The tool skips unrecoverable pages and saves the rest; a file damaged beyond both repair stages is reported as unrecoverable. Password-protected PDFs should be unlocked with Unlock PDF before repairing.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Repair PDF runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib and pdf.js. For supported workflows, file contents are not uploaded for processing; site analytics and the assistant are separate.
