Depth Map to Surface / Point Cloud

Turn a precomputed depth image into either a relief surface or a perspective point reconstruction with explicit camera assumptions.

Workflow type: Depth-image geometry converter. Status: Functional. Expected result: Export result. Available action: Create depth-derived geometry.

What this 3D tool provides

Convert a precomputed grayscale depth map into an explicit relief surface or perspective point reconstruction online with local processing and camera controls.

How to use Depth Map to Surface / Point Cloud

  1. Choose a supported file — Choose grayscale PNG, JPG or WebP depth map from your device.
  2. Review settings — Review the available controls: Reconstruction mode, Output, Relief height / depth range, Relief smoothing, Invert near and far, Vertical FOV (degrees), Near depth, Far depth, Perspective depth encoding, Perspective sampling step.
  3. Review and download — Review the measured result and preview before downloading an available export.

Preview and result review

A stone arch depth map combines a strong foreground silhouette with layered recesses to demonstrate surface recovery.

Depth-derived geometry ready: Review whether you made a relief or a perspective reconstruction, then check the declared depth scale, camera assumptions and output verification before downloading.

Supported inputs and outputs

Input

Output

Relief mode displaces a regular heightfield. Perspective mode back-projects depth through the chosen field of view, depth encoding and near/far range; it exports GLB or PLY points, not an inferred watertight object.

Frequently asked questions

What does Depth Map to Surface / Point Cloud do?

Relief mode turns normalized intensity into height. Perspective mode back-projects normalized depth through your selected FOV, encoding and near/far range.

Which files does Depth Map to Surface / Point Cloud support?

Grayscale PNG, JPG, WebP and PGM depth maps are accepted; relief mode can export a closed STL, GLB or PLY, while perspective mode exports GLB or PLY points.

Is my 3D file uploaded?

Supported file contents stay on this device while the selected tool runs; site analytics and the assistant are separate. The selected file is not uploaded for the supported processing workflow.

What should I review after using Depth Map to Surface / Point Cloud?

The source image must already be a depth map. Perspective output is only as calibrated as its depth encoding and camera settings; it does not infer hidden surfaces or claim watertight geometry.
