Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of edits can I make?

Three: whiteout rectangles in a pickable fill color, text boxes in Helvetica, Times, or Courier at 8–36 pt with a color picker, and PNG, JPG, or WebP images you can drag and resize. Every edit shows up in the element list, where you can jump to it or delete it, and Undo removes the last edit.

Can I change text that is already in the PDF?

Not directly. PDFs store drawn glyphs, not editable paragraphs, so this tool does not reflow or retype existing content. Cover the old text with a whiteout box and type the replacement on top. If you only need to mark up a document rather than correct it, Annotate PDF is the better fit.

Does whiteout remove the content underneath?

No. Whiteout draws an opaque rectangle above the content, so the original text stays in the file and can still be found by search or copy-paste. That is fine for visual corrections, but do not use it to hide confidential information. That requires true redaction, which removes the underlying data.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Edit PDF runs fully in your browser: pdf.js draws the pages and pdf-lib writes your edits into the downloaded copy. Neither your PDF nor your images ever leave your device.
