What does the report include?
File size, PDF header version and any catalog override, page count, page sizes grouped with standard-size names like A4 or Letter, rotated-page count, encryption status and permission flags, title/author/subject/keywords/creator/producer and dates, fonts referenced by the content, image draw count, annotations by subtype, bookmark entries, attachments, accessibility tagging, linearization, and an embedded-JavaScript check. On very large documents some counts are read from the first pages only, and the report says so explicitly.
Can it inspect password-protected PDFs?
It detects that a file is encrypted and reports it. Without the password, page, font, image, annotation, and permission details are unavailable, so the report covers only what is readable from the file structure. If you know the password, run the file through Unlock PDF first for a complete report.
What does the embedded JavaScript warning mean?
The tool scans the raw bytes for /JavaScript and /JS entries. PDF scripts can run automatically in some viewers, so the report flags them and links to Sanitize PDF. The scan is a heuristic: scripts stored inside compressed object streams can be missed, and a match does not always mean an active script.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. PDF Inspector runs fully in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib. The file is analyzed locally and the .txt and .json reports are generated on your device. Supported file contents are not uploaded for processing.
