Controls and Options

Intensity 60 is each preset's designed character. Lower it for a subtler version, raise it to push further: the slider scales pitch and resonance shift on the voice presets, ring and drive on robot, grit and line noise on telephone (its 300-3400 Hz band stays fixed), wobble depth on alien, and echo strength on cave. At 0 the voice passes through nearly unchanged.

Formats and Output

MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, and FLAC inputs are decoded in the browser. The changed voice exports as 16-bit WAV at the source sample rate; cave appends a short echo tail, every other preset keeps the original length.

What does each preset actually do?

Deep lowers pitch and voice resonances by 4 semitones each; monster goes further down (7 and 6) and adds saturation. Chipmunk raises pitch 7 semitones with resonances up 5; helium raises pitch only 2 but resonances 6, which is why it reads as a smaller throat rather than a sped-up tape. Robot multiplies the voice with a 55 Hz carrier and band-shapes it; telephone keeps only the 300-3400 Hz band and adds soft grit and faint line noise; alien shifts up 3 semitones with a slow pitch wobble; cave repeats the voice every 110 milliseconds with darker and quieter echoes each time.

What exactly does the intensity slider change?

It scales the depth of the selected preset around its designed value at 60. On deep, chipmunk, helium, alien, and monster it scales the pitch and resonance shift; on robot it scales how much of the metallic ring replaces the dry voice and how hard the saturation works; on telephone it scales the grit and line noise while the 300-3400 Hz band stays fixed; on cave it scales how loud the echoes are and how long they keep repeating. At 0 the voice passes through nearly unchanged; large shifts are capped where they stop sounding like a voice at all.

Why do the deep and monster voices still sound like a person?

Because pitch and vocal-tract resonances are moved separately. Dropping only the pitch drags the resonances with it and produces the boomy slowed-tape effect; these presets move the resonance envelope by its own chosen amount, so the result reads as a bigger person speaking rather than a recording played wrong. The same split, run upward with the resonances leading, is what makes helium and chipmunk two different characters.

Why does the robot preset sound metallic?

It uses ring modulation: the voice is multiplied by a steady 55 Hz tone, which replaces every harmonic of the voice with a pair of sidebands 55 Hz above and below it. The result is no longer harmonically related to the original pitch, which the ear reads as mechanical. A band-shaping filter and light saturation on top give it the narrow, driven quality of a small speaker.

Will the output clip, and does the length change?

No preset is allowed to clip: the final mix is measured with an inter-sample peak estimate and, if it would exceed -1 dBFS, the whole take is trimmed down and the applied trim is reported in the result. Length is preserved by every preset except cave, which appends a short tail (about a second at default intensity) so the last echoes can die away instead of being cut off.
