Find and Replace Text in PDF Online Free: Search & Swap Words
Search a PDF for any word or phrase, review every match with highlights, and replace the ones you pick.
Fix a repeated typo, swap an outdated year or product name, or update a phone number across a whole document without a desktop editor. Type the text to find, use case-sensitive or whole-word matching, review each match in context with its highlight on the page, untick the ones you want to keep, and download the replaced PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the replacement look identical to the original text?
Not always. The replacement is drawn in standard Helvetica over the original spot, sized to fit the match rectangle, with the background and ink colors sampled from the rendered page. If the document uses a different font, the swapped word can differ slightly in shape and spacing from the text around it.
Is the original text actually removed from the file?
No. The matched text is covered by an opaque patch, not deleted. It remains in the file's text layer and can still be extracted or copied. If you need the underlying text truly gone, for example for sensitive data, use the Redact PDF tool instead.
Which PDFs and replacement text does it support?
The PDF needs a real text layer, so scanned or image-only pages have nothing to search. Password-protected files must be unlocked first. Replacement text is limited to characters Helvetica can encode (Latin letters, digits, and common punctuation), and very long replacements are scaled down, to a minimum of 6 pt, to fit the original spot. All other text stays selectable.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Find & Replace in PDF runs fully in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib. For supported workflows, file contents are not uploaded for processing; site analytics and the assistant are separate.
